Trends for Brunch: How to Wear Fishnets (Without Looking like a 7 Year-Old in a Dance Recital)

Hey Mer-babes! I was really feeling my brunch look yesterday and am so excited to share it with you.  If fishnets haven't been blowing up your Instagram feed you clearly are following the wrong people.  Fishnets are a controversial piece, for some they bring up memories of dance recitals past, bad halloween costumes, or even a piece you used to pair with your favorite denim mini skirt.  For a few years fishnets seemed to be a staple piece of my Halloween costumes, think Kesha and Roller Derby Girl.  When I saw how fishnets were being reimagined as a layering piece my mind was immediately cleared of all past fishnet trauma.
Shop the Look:

I layered my oversized fishnets under a pair of wide-leg cropped jeans, I originally had these under a mini skirt but I wasn't ready for that just yet.  Since I wore denim without holes I still wanted the fishnets to really shine though.  These jeans are perfectly cropped under my calf (I cut them myself),  and allowed for ample fishnet exposure along my ankles.  A simple gold, block-heeled pump was the perfect shoe to pair with this look, it is slightly old lady-ish which is the epitome of my personal style.

Of course I could not forget about the top of this look because it is arguably the best part.  Contrary to popular belief I do not do a ton of shopping, in my opinion that is.  I am extremely picky when it comes to the pieces I love and am willing to spend my hard-earned money on.  This My Melody track jacket literally was singing my name through my laptop screen.  Growing up I was the biggest Hello Kitty nerd ever, I had the toaster, the TV, sewing machine, refrigerator, bike, limited edition jewelry, clothing, and numerous stuffed Hello Kitty and friends. Many of these things I still own today.  For those of you who aren't aware My Melody is a Sanrio character which means she was basically my idol growing up.

Not only is this jacket adorable but completely on trend this season, #TRACKISBACK babies!  It is also the softest jacket ever and I will be living in it all winter long.   Under my track jacket I am sporting a velvet cami, this cami was only $8 so to say I was skeptical of what was going to come in the mail would be an understatement but it is a super cute top that I am so excited to wear all the time.  It can be layered over a tee shirt or worn alone with a pair of denim cut offs, when its not -10 degrees obvi.

Style Tip: I pulled my fishnets up to my waist and tucked in the corner of my camisole for a little added texture to the top half of this look.

I completed the look with a thick pink choker and oversized star earrings, my current staples.  I love creating a signature look with jewelry, it gives anything you were that finishing touch of you-ness!

Fun Fact! After I stood up from taking this last photo my butt was completely soaked / covered in whatever white substance (paint? salt?) is all of the sidewalk here.  Always worth it for the Gram though, ya know?
